The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said it is extending assistance to an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) bound for Europe, whose four-year-old daughter was killed in a car ramming incident at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.
In a statement on Monday, the agency said it is also helping the OFW explain his absence to his employer abroad. Several members of the OFW’s family were also caught in the crash, including his wife, who remains in critical condition, and his mother, who was injured but is now stable.
“We also ask for prayers of healing and safety to those affected by this very unfortunate incident, including the mother of the OFW who was also injured but is currently out of harm’s way,” the DMW said.
On Sunday, 4 May, a sport utility vehicle rammed into the departure entrance of NAIA Terminal 1. The crash occurred around 8:50 a.m.
According to the Land Transportation Office, the license of the driver involved has been preventively suspended for 90 days, while the Department of Transportation added that the driver would undergo a drug test.
On the same day, the Repatriation Assistance Division of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration coordinated with the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp., the Philippine National Police, airport security, nearby hospitals, and funeral parlors to assist the families affected by the incident.
