The Philippine government is set to advance the implementation and localization of the National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (NAPWPS) in the coming months.
Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity Carlito Galvez Jr. announced Monday that the initiative is a priority under the administration’s broader peacebuilding and security efforts.
“We plan to implement and localize the National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security in the upcoming months, as we continue to advance our work in this area,” Galvez said.
The NAPWPS is designed to address the challenges faced by women in conflict situations and recognize their critical contributions to peacebuilding.
It emphasizes the promotion and protection of women’s rights, particularly in situations of armed conflict, and seeks to embed these principles into the country’s overall peace and security framework.
In March, the Philippines launched the Women, Peace and Security Center of Excellence to support the NAPWPS’ implementation. The center aims to ensure women’s participation and leadership are integrated into all phases of conflict resolution and peace processes.
