
Balanga City, Bataan — As Rainiel Lorejas Salandanan gets ready for school, there is a pep in her step, knowing that she is secured for her expenses.
A student of the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), Salandanan is taking up Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Construction and is one of the scholars of AboitizPower Corporation.
“My mother is a solo parent so this scholarship program of AboitizPower is a big help for us,” Salandanan said during the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) on the scholarship grant by AboitizPower subsidiaries GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD), as well as the provincial government of Bataan.
“She no longer needs to take care of the my school expenses.”
Salandanan calls the scholarship an opportunity and blessing to underprivileged students who have the potential to be someone in the future.
Under the MoA signed at the provincial capitol building, GMEC and GNPD are doling out P10 million to fund a five-year scholarship for several Bataan engineering students.
According to AboitizPower president and CEO Danel Aboitiz, P2 million will be allotted for the scholarship per year starting this month.
Aboitiz also said that the scholars will come from the BPSU main campus and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Mariveles.
Governor Joet Garcia thanked AboitizPower for giving worthy scholars a chance to finish college. He said the future engineers will help shape and develop the province of Bataan.
Aboitiz, Garcia, AboitizPower Transition Business Group COO Ronaldo Ramos, AboitizPower North Luzon COO Celso Caballero, Vice Governor Cris Garcia and Mariveles Mayor Ace Jello Concepcion signed the MoA in the presence of officials and representatives of BPSU and PUP Mariveles.
