Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island registered one volcanic quake and spewed 3,078 tonnes of sulfur dioxide on Friday, 18 April, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
According to Phivolcs’ bulletin issued on Saturday covering a 24‑hour period from 12 AM on Friday, the volcano had weak plumes that reached 50 meters before drifting west. The volcano’s edifice also remains inflated.
To date, Kanlaon remains under Alert Level 3, signifying intensified unrest or magmatic unrest. The six‑kilometer radius from the volcano should remain evacuated, and flying aircraft near the volcano remains prohibited.
Residents are also advised to be cautious of hazards such as sudden explosive eruptions, lava flow or effusion, pyroclastic density currents, rockfall, and lahars during heavy rains.
Kanlaon’s last explosive eruption occurred on 8 April at 5:51 in the morning, producing gray voluminous plumes reaching four kilometers high.
