President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has urged motorists to exercise patience and avoid road rage incidents, following recent confrontations on the roads.
In his latest vlog, Marcos acknowledged the frustrations of traffic and encounters with drivers who disregard traffic laws, but called for restraint.
“I understand that sometimes traffic can be really annoying and sometimes we have to share the road with those who don’t follow traffic laws. Exercise patience, just let it pass, what do we have to lose? 1 second, 5 seconds, 20 seconds? Let us let it go and not make it bother us,” the President said.
Marcos expressed concern over the increasing aggression among drivers.
“Everyone is brave, everyone is passionate, what is this culture of being tough on the road? Where did we get this, what is happening to us that makes these confrontations and violence seem natural?” he asked.
He reminded the public of the importance of following traffic rules and practicing responsible driving.
“Discipline is needed to be responsible Filipinos on the road. The country is already filled with ‘Kamotes’ (reckless drivers), we do not need more. A driver’s license is a privilege and not a right,” Marcos said.
He also stressed that motorists should possess not only driving skills but also a good attitude and patience and encouraged bystanders to intervene and deescalate road altercations instead of simply recording them.
“Let us think that we have a duty in keeping the peace in our surroundings,” he said.
