ILOILO CITY — The Iloilo City Operations Center was placed on Blue Alert status in preparation for the observance of Holy Week, or Semana Santa, in 2025, effective from 13 to 20 April 2025.

The alert status, issued by the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (ICDRRMC), mandates all vice chairpersons, cluster leads, and unit leads to be on standby for possible deployment.

All members of the ICDRRM Council are likewise directed to conduct close monitoring and report all incidents to their respective response clusters for prompt coordination with concerned offices and agencies.

Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees are also ordered to activate their Barangay Emergency Operations Centers and raise their alert levels accordingly.

They are also tasked with intensifying information campaigns on public safety, monitoring barangay-level developments, implementing disaster preparedness measures and ensuring a 24/7 operational presence.

Key offices and agencies are required to submit situational reports to the Iloilo City Emergency Operations Center through 09190662333 and 09616535111 (Viber).

Semana Santa, a solemn observance in the Catholic calendar, draws large crowds to churches and public spaces. Authorities remind the public to remain vigilant and cooperative throughout the period.

In view of the high heat index and the anticipated influx of devotees, the public is urged to take precautionary measures.

The ICDRRMC advises staying hydrated, especially when joining processions, and avoiding outdoor or strenuous activities between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to wear loose, light-colored clothing and carry heat protection such as umbrellas, caps, fans or sunscreen.

Those leaving for the holidays are reminded to unplug electrical devices, switch off the main power supply, secure their homes and store valuables properly.

Lit candles should never be left unattended. Caution is also advised when posting real-time travel plans on social media.

Beachgoers are reminded to avoid restricted swimming areas and keep local emergency hotlines accessible.
