Cuban volleyball standout Wilma Salas blew into town Wednesday night and is ready to take the court with PLDT in the upcoming rebranded AVC Women’s Champions League.

The tournament, set to run from 20 to 27 April at the Philsports Arena, will mark Salas’ return to the country and her debut with the High Speed Hitters.

Salas, a former Petro Gazz import, made a significant impact in the Philippine volleyball scene during the 2019 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference. Her dynamic performance helped the Angels clinch their first-ever PVL title, and she was named the Best Foreign Guest Player of the conference.

Following her successful stint in the Philippines, Salas continued her career in Europe, playing for top-tier clubs such as KPS Chemik Police in Poland and Olympiacos S.F. Piraeus in Greece.

In July 2024, Salas made a highly anticipated return to the PVL, rejoining Petro Gazz for the Reinforced Conference. Despite the team’s slow start with a 1-3 record, Salas’ leadership and on-court brilliance helped steer the Angels to the quarterfinals.

One of her most memorable performances with Petro Gazz was a career-high 40-point game against PLDT, a dazzling display that cemented her as one of the league’s top foreign players.

Now, Salas will bring her experience and leadership to the High Speed Hitters. With her proven track record and undeniable talent, Salas is expected to make a significant impact on PLDT’s campaign.

Her move from the Angels to the High Speed Hitters marks a new chapter in her career, showcasing her performance in the continental club volleyball competition.
