Pasig City mayoralty bet Sarah Discaya has pledged to improve services for solo mothers in the city if elected in the upcoming midterm elections.

Discaya, a businesswoman, assured residents that no single parent would be overlooked.

“As a mother, I feel the weight of the responsibility of raising a child. But it’s twice as heavy if you’re alone. Under my leadership, I will make sure no single parent is left behind. You have a place in Pasig — there is hope, there is support and there is a future,” Discaya said.

“In every solo parent, there is a strength that should be recognized and supported. You are not alone,” she added.

Discaya detailed several planned initiatives, starting with the construction of a dedicated solo parent empowerment center at Pasig City Hall.

She also promised to offer starting capital and training to support home-based businesses such as baking, crafting and online selling.

Also, Discaya will be pushing free annual health check-ups for solo parents and their children, along with access to mental health counseling, parenting seminars and stress management workshops.

Leadership training for those wanting to be active in the community would also be provided, as well as skills training in areas like caregiving, computer literacy, and bookkeeping, with partnerships established with TESDA and local businesses for job placement.

For the children of solo parents, Discaya vowed to provide full or partial scholarships from elementary to college, along with free school supplies and uniforms each year, and weekend tutoring and mentorship programs for academic support.

She also announced plans for a yearly “Solo Parent Appreciation Day” to include recognition, gifts and free services such as haircuts, massages and medical check-ups, in addition to community events designed for bonding between solo parents and their children.

Discaya stressed that solo parents living in informal settlements would be prioritized for housing programs and offered rent subsidies while awaiting permanent housing, along with counseling on financial literacy to help them maintain their homes.
