BONTOC, Mountain Province — Five people were killed and nine others injured in a van crash Friday night in Ampawilen, Sadanga, Mountain Province.
Four of the victims — Vance Quinto Hernandez Jr., Gerardo Navarro, Veronica Hipolito, and an unidentified woman — were declared dead on the spot. A fifth victim, Jay Niño Beland, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The injured passengers were identified as: Mary Joy Reyes, 45, of Manila; Archie Reyes, 25; Cherish Quimpan, 20, of Cavite; Manuel Lap, 26, of Malvar, Batangas; Elvis Acupan, 25, male, of Ilocos Norte; Ham Sua, 23, of Tagaytay; Arlette Sarmiento, female, of Ilocos Norte; Christine Cuidamat, of Tagaytay; and Dan Dacoycoy, 24, of Bacarra, Ilocos Norte
The group was aboard a white van reportedly bound for Buscalan, Tinglayan, Kalinga, when the crash occurred.
At around 10 p.m., the van was traversing the Mountain Province–Kalinga–Cagayan Road when it reportedly skidded, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle plunged into a ravine approximately 50 meters deep.
The injured victims are currently confined at Bontoc General Hospital in Bontoc, Mountain Province.
