Operatives from the Muntinlupa City Police arrested a 25-year-old man early Tuesday for illegal possession of a firearm amid the ongoing nationwide election gun ban.
The suspect, identified by his alias Ronron and a resident of Barangay Alabang, was apprehended around 3 a.m. Tuesday in Barangay Bayanan, Muntinlupa City.
Police responded to a report from a concerned citizen about a man brandishing a firearm and causing a disturbance in the area.
Officers from Sub-Station 2 found the suspect in possession of a firearm. Upon verification, he failed to present any legal documentation for the weapon. Recovered from him was a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver with three live rounds of ammunition.
The suspect faces charges for violating Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Batas Pambansa 881, the Omnibus Election Code, due to the election gun ban.
He has been informed of his rights and is scheduled for inquest proceedings.
