Filipinos are known for their hospitality — to a fault, in fact. But they, too, have their limits.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that it has completed the fourth phase of the flood control project in Baseco Compound in Port Area, Manila.
DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said in a statement on Friday, 28 March, that the newly completed project, amounting to P96.49 million, is the fourth phase of a slope protection project that serves as the first line of defense for residents against river overflow and flooding.
The fourth phase, according to Bonoan, extended the slope protection by 272.8 linear meters.
In addition to preventing river overflow and flooding, the project also aims to prevent soil erosion and improve water quality in the area.
The DPWH previously completed the first three phases of the slope project in Baseco Compound costing P285.34 million, while three succeeding phases are underway and will be funded under the 2025 General Appropriations Act.
