NLEX Corp. aims to complete repair works on the northbound lane of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) under the Marilao Interchange Bridge by Friday, 28 March, following damage caused by a truck accident.
Amid inconveniences, the operator announced on Sunday that motorists traveling along the affected areas will receive temporary toll relief while repairs continue on the Marilao Interchange Bridge.
The affected area will be temporarily closed for safety repairs starting Monday, 24 March, at 1 p.m., until 28 March at 11 p.m.
While the leftmost and rightmost lanes will remain open, motorists should expect congestion.
NLEX will waive toll fees on the northbound stretch from Balintawak to Meycauayan starting tomorrow noon, 24 March.
The toll relief will remain in effect until all four lanes of the Marilao northbound section are fully reopened.
“Please expect heavy traffic. Motorists may take alternate routes,” NLEX said, adding that a zipper lane will be opened in the southbound direction when conditions permit.
NLEX previously estimated that full repairs could take two to three weeks. However, it is expediting the work to minimize traffic disruptions.
The damage occurred when a tanker truck exceeded the 4.27-meter height limit under the bridge, causing an impact that ejected the truck driver’s wife from the vehicle. Fortunately, she did not suffer serious injuries.
Meanwhile, NLEX is exploring legal action to recover repair costs from the drivers and owners of the two trucks involved.
The company has already filed charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property and intends to seek compensation through legal proceedings.
