Cordillera police urged: Help battle scams

BAGUIO CITY — The Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (RACU) Cordillera is encouraging the public to report immediately incidents of scams to help victims retrieve their accounts.

RACU Cordillera head P/Col. Maria Theresa Pucay said that Anti-Cybercrime Unit can help victims of scam and data hacking. She said it will be a big help if the viticms will provide important details on their hacked accounts so that they can assist in the retrieval and apprehension of the hackers.

Pucay however admitted that they were not able to identify any scammer from Baguio City and other areas in the region as most of the scammers are from other places in the country. She then appealed to their counterpart offices for a strengthened operation for the immediate identification of suspects from other regions.

Meanwhile, Pucay said the Public Free Wifi Access powered by the Department of Information and Communications Technology is still safe. She however strongly advised the public not to download “anti-scam” applications as these can be used as access of scammers to sneak into the accounts of private individuals.
