The National Youth Commission (NYC) announced on Wednesday that it has approved a resolution aimed at strengthening support against teenage pregnancy and the spread of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) among Filipino youth.
"The National Youth Commission has approved its official position on Senate Resolution No. 13, which addresses the critical issues of adolescent pregnancy and HIV infections among Filipino youth," the commission said in a statement.
According to the NYC, the measure, Policy Resolution No. 2, Series of 2025, underscores the agency's commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of the country's young population.
The resolution, sponsored by Commissioner Bianca Patrice Go, advocates for stronger implementation of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), improved access to youth-friendly reproductive health services, and the active involvement of young people in policy development.
"This proactive stance aims to combat the rising challenges posed by adolescent pregnancy and HIV/AIDS, aligning with the Philippine Youth Development Plan 2023-2028," the commission added.
The NYC confirmed that its official position paper will be formally transmitted to relevant government agencies, including the Senate and executive offices, to help shape legislative and policy discussions.
"The approved position paper will be formally transmitted to relevant government bodies, including the Senate and executive agencies, to inform and influence legislative and policy discussions. The NYC's firm stance reflects its mandate to serve as the primary policy-making and coordinating body on youth-related concerns, as outlined in Republic Act No. 8044, also known as the Youth in Nation-Building Act," the statement further read.
