Actress-turned-politician Ara Mina remains firm in her decision to align with Pasig mayoralty aspirant Sarah Discaya, despite the latter being the political rival of incumbent Mayor Vico Sotto, the son of veteran actor Vic Sotto. However, she is confident that Vic will not take it personally.
While Ara acknowledges her past working relationship with Vic, she clarified that she does not have a personal connection with Vico.
"I don’t personally know Vico kasi si Bossing lang ang nakasama ko sa trabaho, kumbaga wala talaga akong personal relationship with Mayor Vico. Si Ate Sarah talaga ‘yung binigay sa akin ni Lord para pumasok sa public service,” she explains.
(I don’t personally know Vico because I only worked with Bossing. I don’t have a personal relationship with Mayor Vico. Ate Sarah Discaya was truly the one given to me by the Lord as my path into public service)
The actress also shared that her decision to enter politics was not made lightly, revealing that she sought guidance from her family and spent months praying for a sign before committing to run.
“I prayed for a sign. I also consulted my family. It took me about three months before making my decision. As for the signs I received, I’d rather keep those to myself because there were so many,” she said.
Ara, who is running for councilor in Pasig’s District 2 under Discaya’s slate, believes that Vic, whom she fondly calls “Bossing,” is too wise to let politics get in the way of personal relationships.
"Knowing Bossing (Vic Sotto) matalinong tao siya hindi para magkaroon ng gan’ung problema. May kanya-kanya naman tayong preference and kanya-kanyang journey. I don’t think sasama loob ni Bossing sa gan’un," Ara said.
(Knowing Bossing, he’s a smart man to not have problems over something like this. We all have our own preferences and journey. I don’t think he will harbor ill feelings about it.)
Ara and Vic previously worked together in the 2003 film Fantastic Man, where she played his love interest, a character possessed by an evil spirit.
Meanwhile, Discaya, under whose ticket Ara is running, has been facing a disqualification case filed by Mayor Vico since October 2024. Also part of the slate is former Miss Universe Philippines national director Shamcey Supsup-Lee, who is also seeking a seat in the city council.
