
Former Senator and senatorial aspirant Kiko Pangilinan reaffirmed his commitment to agriculture and food security as he met with local officials in Panay Island, gaining key endorsements during his visit.
In Capiz, Pangilinan won the endorsement of Gov. Fredenil Castro during their meeting, where he also discussed the importance of his Sagip Saka Act in strengthening farmers’ livelihoods and enhancing food security in the province.
Pangilinan also presented Gov. Castro with a copy of the Sagip Saka Act, which allows national and local governments to directly purchase rice from farmers without requiring a public bidding process.
He had a breakfast meeting and courtesy call with the One Capiz slate, led by Vice Governor James Magbanua, Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, and 1st District Board Member Thea Faith Reyes.
In Aklan, the former senator also paid a courtesy call on Vice Gov. Reynaldo Quimpo, where they discussed key issues affecting the province, including agriculture, food security, and livelihood opportunities.
As a province reliant on agriculture and fisheries, Pangilinan emphasized the need for stronger support systems to help farmers and fishermen sustain and grow their livelihoods, which he sees as crucial for Aklan’s economic development.
He also shared this advocacy with Kalibo Mayor Juris Sucro and Vice Mayor Doc Cynthia Dela Cruz, expressing his support for the city’s agriculture and food manufacturing sectors.
While in Aklan, Pangilinan took time to visit his supporters and volunteers in Altavas and Kalibo, personally thanking them for their unwavering support.
In the 2022 vice presidential race, Pangilinan garnered strong backing from Panay Island, placing second in Capiz, Aklan, and Antique, with 142,084, 103,175, and 91,665 votes, respectively.
