Vice President Sara Duterte accused the International Criminal Court (ICC) of pursuing former President Rodrigo Duterte…
Former President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday challenged the legal basis of his arrest following the issuance of an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant linking him to crimes against humanity over his controversial war on drugs.
In a video posted on social media by his daughter Veronica, Duterte was seen at what appeared to be Villamor Air Base, confronting authorities after being taken there upon his arrival at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from Hong Kong.
“What is the law, and what is the crime that I committed? Explain to me now the legal basis for my being here, as I was apparently brought here against my will,” Duterte said.
He also questioned whether authorities had reviewed the case before detaining him. “You have to answer now for the deprivation of liberty… Have you read the case at the time you made the arrest so that you should be guided on what you should know?” he added.
