Pasig needs ‘smart hospital,’ says mayoralty bet

A mayoral aspirant has stressed that healthcare funding should take priority in the city of Pasig, saying that it should come first before constructing the proposed new city hall.

In a statement mayoralty bet Sarah Discaya stressed that the city’s residents’ healthcare needs should be addressed following her response on the requests for medical assistance from impoverished communities.

Discaya said her priority would be establishing "smart hospitals" with adequate equipment and medicine.

"Many Pasigueños have needs, such as medicine, hospital equipment, and medical professionals and healthcare personnel. These should be the priorities," Discaya said.

She also lamented the alleged that social services, including healthcare and educational aid, were underfunded.

Discaya also cited the city's drop in the Department of Trade and Industry's Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index, where Pasig fell from 6th place in 2019 to 9th place in 2024.

She attributed the decline to the government efficiency category, which includes healthcare, peace and order, education, and social protection.

Some senior citizens also expressed disappointment over alleged cuts in benefits, particularly in healthcare, claiming the city government tightened its budget for social services to fund the city hall project.

Discaya's platform focuses on making Pasig a "smart city" with "smart facilities," "smart schools" and "smart hospitals."
