Golden Tee controversy integrity crackdown or personal attack?

Controversy has erupted at the Manila Golf & Country Club following the expulsion of a high-profile player and the one-year suspension of his flightmate and four caddies. The official reason? Failure to exchange pre-swapped scorecards during the 53rd Golden Tee tournament.
While the board insists this was a serious violation of tournament rules, many are questioning whether the punishment is excessive and selectively applied. Similar cases in the past have reportedly been overlooked or dealt with more leniently, fueling speculation about hidden agendas behind the decision.
Critics argue that the severity of this ruling raises concerns about double standards within the club. Was this truly about upholding fair play, or was the expelled player made an example of due to personal or political motivations?
