As Creamline revs up for the AVC Women’s Champions League from 20 to 27 April, it remains steadfast in its support for former setter Jia de Guzman, who is currently playing for Denso Airybees in Japan’s SV.League.

In a statement released last Monday, the multi-titled Premier Volleyball League (PVL) squad acknowledged De Guzman’s ongoing campaign with the Airybees, who are currently in second place in the SV.League standings.

“The Creamline Cool Smashers are excited to be one of the two teams representing the Philippines in the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League this April,” the statement read.

“We also want to express our heartfelt support for Jia de Guzman, who’s currently under contract with Denso Airybees until May. As Denso gears up for the SVL Championship round, we acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all the players, especially Jia, who truly embodies the spirit of our sport.”

De Guzman has appeared in 10 matches this season for the Airybees, contributing to their 25-9 record as they aim for a deep playoff run in Japan’s top-tier league.

The Cool Smashers, along with Petro Gazz, will represent the Philippines in the upcoming continental tournament, as confirmed last Saturday.

Despite the challenges posed by scheduling conflicts, Creamline reaffirmed its commitment to its campaign while extending full support to De Guzman.

“Our focus at Creamline is on the journey ahead, and we’re committed to representing our country with pride in the Champions League. We have faith in our team’s strength and determination to make a meaningful impact on the international stage,” the team stated.

“Let’s unite in supporting Jia and Denso this season, wishing them the best as they pursue their goals. Together, we celebrate the camaraderie and competitive spirit that volleyball brings to our community.”

While De Guzman is not expected to suit up for the Cool Smashers’ in the Champions League, questions remain on whether import Erica Staunton will be available.

Staunton played a crucial role in Creamline’s successful Grand Slam season in 2024, helping the team clinch the Reinforced and Invitational titles.

With their eyes set on international glory, the Cool Smashers are ready to take on the region’s best while standing by one of their own in her overseas journey.
