Striking fear
“Those who commit criminal acts should not be allowed to find any peace or solace, as their actions have far-reaching consequences.

It was a failed kidnapping for ransom that instilled fear not only in the family members but also in a nation that values its youth.
I feel deep sympathy for the family of the 14-year-old Chinese student who was kidnapped in Taguig City on 20 February and found abandoned seven days ago along Macapagal Avenue in Parañaque City.
The boy was picked up by the family driver from school but did not return home after an activity at the British School of Manila. The driver’s body was later found in another vehicle.
The abductors had cut off part of the boy’s right little finger when no ransom was paid, said Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla. The boy was finally reunited with his family and medically examined at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City.
Remulla said the police were “definite” that the perpetrators belonged to a syndicate involved in the activities of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO).
The closure of POGOs has deeply affected many individuals, particularly businessmen who relied on substantial earnings. This disruption has created significant challenges for those who built their livelihoods around this industry, and it’s heartbreaking to see the impact it has had on innocent lives.
However, I am overwhelmed with anger and lack the words to convey my feelings about the horrific crime that befell the kidnap victim. As a father, I cannot accept such a fate befalling any of my children. I might resort to vigilantism and take down each perpetrator if the police fail to solve the case.
Kidnappers are criminals; they may also be considered terrorists, particularly if they are non-citizens committing these acts in another country. They communicate through violence and use the media to strike fear among the public. That’s why they severed the victim’s finger — to send a message.
As the elections approach, we can expect a rise in high-profile kidnapping incidents involving the children of billionaires and millionaires, as well as an increase in bank robberies, since these targets involve substantial sums of money.
Remulla said the police are aware of the members of the POGO syndicate responsible for the recent incidents and have even identified suspects. “We know where they live, where their hideout is, and where their safe house is. It’s just a matter of time before the suspects are caught.”
The President’s directive to the Philippine National Police (PNP) was clear: take action against criminal syndicates following the latest incident.
Those who commit criminal acts should not be allowed to find any peace or solace, as their actions have far-reaching consequences that ripple through the lives of their victims and the community at large.
Society must hold them accountable, ensuring they face the repercussions of their choices. Justice should remind us that crime can never truly go unpunished and that the cycle of harm must be broken.
Peace and order is my primary platform as a candidate in the local elections. I will work to ensure that Cebu City has the safest streets in the country. How do we plan to achieve this? By investing in the latest technology to combat and solve crime effectively.
I will be strict but fair. I will be friendly yet firm. No politics —everything is for the people.
