The Province of La Union marked its 175th Founding Anniversary with a series of events celebrating its rich heritage, resilience, and continued progress since its establishment in 1850.
The commemoration began with a Dawn Watch Prayer and community cleanup initiative, followed by a Simultaneous Flag Raising Ceremony at the Provincial Capitol Grounds. The event, led by Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David, was attended by provincial and municipal officials, government employees, and civil society leaders.
At the Mabanag Grounds in San Fernando City, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) hosted an Aldaw ti Kaprobinsiaan event, offering free social services, including medical, dental, and legal consultations. The event also featured a Real Property Tax campaign to assist residents with tax concerns.
To promote environmental sustainability, the Community Pantree and Sukat Bukel Program distributed free seedlings, while pet owners took advantage of free anti-rabies vaccinations and spaying services for their animals.
The La Union Job Fair provided employment opportunities, attracting 248 job seekers applying for positions in banks, hospitals, hotels, supermarkets, gas stations, and restaurants. International job placements were also available through participating recruitment agencies.
Local farmers and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) benefited from Kadiwa ng Pangulo, a trade fair that showcased and sold quality local products at affordable prices. More than 20 exhibitors participated in the initiative, supporting local entrepreneurship.
Hundreds of Catholic devotees attended a Thanksgiving Mass at St. William the Hermit Cathedral, expressing gratitude for the province’s continued prosperity.
A highlight of the celebration was the Street Dance Showdown Competition, where contingents from various municipalities showcased their creativity and cultural pride through colorful and energetic performances.
To cap off the festivities, the Kaprobinsiaan Night at San Fernando City Plaza featured electrifying performances from BRYN, DREAM 7, KZ Tandingan Kalokalike Vyan De la Cruz, Michael Dutchi, and Sowhunly. OPM stars Maki and Janine Tenoso also graced the stage, treating the audience to their hit songs.
