Authorities arrested a Chinese doctor and his assistant for allegedly operating an illegal mini-hospital inside a condominium unit in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City.
The doctor, identified only as Dr. Lee, was arrested after police discovered a makeshift hospital equipped with a hospital bed, medical equipment and unregistered medicines, according to a report Wednesday.
Police also found two patients inside the unit, who were subsequently transferred to a legitimate hospital.
The suspects will face charges of violating the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Act of 2009 and the Medical Act of 1959.
Police said they are investigating whether the illegal clinic catered to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
“This condominium has been previously identified as a residence for individuals working in or linked to POGOs who had personal debts,” said Police Major General Nicolas Torre III, chief of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
“We are now determining the suspect’s license and qualifications to practice medicine,” he added.
