The anticipation is building for Eraserheads: Combo On The Run, a documentary film poised to capture the magic and magnitude of the iconic Filipino rock band’s 2022 Huling El Bimbo reunion concert.
DVent Pictures and Warner Bros. Philippines, in cooperation with WEU, have unveiled the film’s official poster, designed by the internationally acclaimed Brandon Schaefer of Jumpcut NYC.
Schaefer’s portfolio speaks for itself, boasting work on Oscar-winning films like Drive My Car, as well as projects for Sundance and Cannes winners and even the 40th-anniversary release of Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver.
Producer and filmmaker Maria Diane Ventura revealed that Schaefer presented multiple design concepts, giving him creative freedom to explore various visual approaches.
The final choice, Ventura explained, was a unanimous decision, balancing artistic merit with commercial appeal. While she expressed a desire to share all the designs, particularly the more abstract and avant-garde ones, the chosen poster effectively encapsulates the film’s essence.
Beyond the striking poster, Eraserheads: Combo On The Run is set to break new ground as the first Philippine documentary to be screened in Dolby Atmos.
This immersive audio technology promises to elevate the viewing experience, bringing the concert to life with unparalleled sound fidelity.
The film’s innovative sound design is the work of award-winning sound mixer and engineer Jason Abell, known for his work on music documentaries like Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé and Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.
Ventura shared the story of Abell’s involvement, explaining how cinematographer Hilarion Banks recommended him after their work at the famed Funkhaus in Berlin.
Impressed by Abell’s portfolio, Ventura traveled to Los Angeles to collaborate with him at the same soundstage where Hans Zimmer’s Dune soundtrack and the Beyoncé and Taylor Swift documentaries were mixed.
She praised Abell’s professionalism and dedication to honoring the band’s music, a goal that aligned perfectly with the film’s objective.
Ventura emphasized the importance of presenting the music in the best possible way, and she believes Abell achieved just that.
Eraserheads: Combo On The Run offers an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the Huling El Bimbo concert, which took place against a backdrop of political division and post-pandemic uncertainty.
Featuring rare footage and never-before-seen interviews, the documentary promises to reveal intimate details about the band and their journey.
It is already being hailed as one of the most important films of 2025 by critics and pop culture enthusiasts.
Mark your calendars: Eraserheads: Combo On The Run will screen nationwide for a limited time, from 21 to 23 March.
The official trailer, which has already generated significant buzz, has amassed over two million views across various platforms within its first 30 hours, further fueling the excitement for this highly-anticipated documentary event.
