Fashion unites
Fashion is an art form that bridges education and opportunity.

Calgary, a modern city nestled between the Canadian Prairies and Rockies, is emerging as a fashion hub for both Filipino creatives and global talents. The Calgary International Fashion & Arts Week has become a key event, drawing attention from industry professionals and media worldwide.
Founded by Filipino-Canadians Limuel Hayag Vilela and Alvin Masangkay Francia, CIFAW has grown from a passion project into a global platform for networking, education, and the celebration of fashion trends and inclusivity.
CIFAW’s inaugural event in 2017, The Fashion Takes Off from New York City, featured renowned designers like Jude Charles and Vanny Tousignant, setting the stage for the event’s success. “CIFAW has grown into a premier celebration of creativity and diversity, helping many young talents make a name for themselves in global fashion capitals,” Vilela said.
Several of CIFAW’s early models now walk the prestigious runways of Milan, Paris and New York.
Vilela’s journey began in the Philippines, transitioning from model to designer, eventually leading to international show production. “Fashion was a path prepared for me, a journey from humble beginnings to something meaningful,” he reflected.
After arriving in Canada in 2008, Calgary became a platform for his personal and professional growth. Francia, an advocate for education and accessibility, believes in the power of creativity to inspire and empower.
“Fashion is an art form that bridges education and opportunity,” he said.
Despite initial skepticism in Calgary, a city known for its cowboy culture, Vilela and Francia’s passion and hard work earned them the trust of the community.
“We built a brand rooted in creativity, inclusivity, and empowerment,” Vilela said. They emphasize that CIFAW welcomes all creatives, especially newcomers, offering a platform for those eager to showcase their passion and creativity.
Today, CIFAW also organizes Calgary Kids Fashion Week, Edmonton Kids Fashion Week, Winnipeg Kids Fashion Week, and international events like SCI PH New York and SCI PH Paris.
