DAVAO CITY — Former President Rodrigo Duterte and current Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte remain on the front court for Davaoeños in the May local elections, according to the latest survey conducted by the Institute of Popular Opinion of the University of Mindanao (UM-IPO).
The UM-IPO survey showed that six out of 10 Davaoeños, or 60 percent, would still go for the former president as he seeks another term as mayor while only one in 10, or 10 percent, chose his closest rival, Karlo Nograles, in the survey conducted on 8-28 January in the three districts of Davao.
The survey covered 2,582 registered voters in face-to-face interviews that had a confidence level of 95 percent and a two-percent margin of error.
Baste Duterte, who is running for vice mayor, had a 55.7-percent rating, ahead of Bernie Al-ag who got 14 percent.
Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte leads the congressional race in the first district with 54.8 percent followed by Mig Nograles with 16.4 percent, while 28.8 percent were undecided.
In the second district, Omar Duterte got 41.8 percent past Javi Garcia Campos with 24.4 percent.
The number of undecided voters implies the need for candidates to reveal their plans and platforms for the city of Davao, the UM-IPO said.
