The Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) - Digital Infrastructure group, led by businessman Sabin M. Aboitiz, is pushing for more strategic investments in infrastructure and workforce upskilling to future-proof the country for artificial intelligence (AI)-powered economy.
PSAC members pledged to collaborate with key government agencies — including the Departments of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Science and Technology (DOST), and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) — to drive AI innovation and digital transformation.
“The President’s direct engagement in refining policies into practical solutions underscores the urgent need to expand bandwidth for students and families in remote areas while keeping pace with AI advancements,” PSAC Digital Infrastructure Lead and MDI Group Holdings Inc. Chairperson Myla Villanueva said on Tuesday.
She said PSAC is fully committed to shaping a national AI strategy that balances progress with public trust.
“PSAC Digital looks forward to working with DICT Secretary Ivan Uy, DOST Secretary Renato Solidum, and NEDA Chief Secretary Arsi Balisacan to develop national strategies and upskill the workforce while ensuring a balanced approach to innovation, safety, and public trust.”
Beyond AI, PSAC also aims to champion greater digital inclusion through the JuanSIM ng Bayan program, which targets to bridge connectivity gaps in underserved and remote areas.
The initiative will provide subsidized SIM cards and internet access, with deployment set for 510 sites by the end of the year.
The Department of Education will take charge of distribution, working directly with schools to ensure seamless implementation. The DOST, on the other hand, will support the initiative by leveraging its rural telecommunications network to enhance connectivity in far-flung communities.
With AI on the rise and digital access expanding, PSAC said accelerated efforts are needed to equip Filipinos with the tools and skills to thrive in an evolving technological landscape.
