
The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS), in collaboration with REMS Entertainment, officially launched the first-ever FAMAS Short Film Festival. The announcement was made by festival director Gabby Ramos and FAMAS president Francia Conrado during a press briefing in Quezon City.
Ramos and Conrado shared details about the festivalβs objectives, requirements, and awards ceremony. While there is no set theme, participants are encouraged to explore diverse narratives, creative storytelling, artistic expression, and socially relevant topics.
The competition is open to filmmakers of all ages across the country, including overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), as long as they meet the eligibility criteria. Entries must have a maximum running time of 20 minutes and should have premiered between January 2024 and March 2025. The director must be a Filipino citizen, and the production must be based in the Philippines, although co-productions are allowed.
The festival features five categories, each celebrating different aspects of filmmaking:

πππ©π’ππππ¬ ππππ β Projects raising awareness of social issues and encouraging viewer engagement.
ππ’ππ¨π ππ‘π§ππ₯π¬ β Fact-based films addressing real-life events and societal concerns.
Films must be in their original language with English subtitles and should not have been previously submitted to FAMAS. Student films require school endorsement, regional films should emphasize local storytelling, and advocacy and documentary films must address relevant social issues.
