Davao Aguilas-University of Makati (UMak) FC hopes to bring the momentum from their 1-0 win over defending champion Kaya FC-Iloilo as it guns for a spot in the top four for the finals series of the Philippines Football League (PFL).
Forward Gabriel Costa hopes snapping Kaya’s 42-game winning streak, which started 25 February 2023, gives them a much-needed push to make the most of the next nine games.
Costa delivered the lone goal of the game in the 70th minute with a volley inside the penalty area.
“We’re happy with the win. It hasn’t been a great run of results for us lately,” Costa said.
“They’re (Kaya) the best team in the Philippines right now and we are fortunate to work hard in training this week and be able to deliver the result.”
“Hopefully after this, we continue our good run of form and use it as a confidence boost to get more points and get into the top four.”
The Aguilas are currently in seventh place in the standings with a 4-1-6 win-draw-loss record.
Davao is not just aiming to make it to the postseason but also gunning for the PFL title it last won in 2019.
The champion will also be given a slot for next season’s AFC Champions League 2 where the best Asian clubs participate.
