The northeast monsoon, known as “amihan,” is expected to re-intensify this week and bring cool weather over Luzon.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Veronica Torres said that the cozy weather will be felt as far as the Calabarzon area as the weather system is expected to strengthen.

Most parts of the country experienced warm and humid weather, as the northeast monsoon weakened and only affected the portion of Extreme Northern Luzon.

“It may strengthen again around Thursday this week, and it can be felt in most parts of Luzon,” Torres said in a phone interview.

As the northeast monsoon brings rain over Extreme Northern Luzon, Magat Dam in Isabela continues to release water.

The Hydro-Meteorology Division-Flood Forecasting and Warning Section of PAGASA reported that one gate of Magat Dam is still open, however, the release of water lessened to 357.72 cubic meters per second from 488.06 cubic meters per second last Monday.

PAGASA Flood Forecasting and Warning System for Dam Operation mentioned that the towns of Alfonso Lista in Ifugao, Ramon, San Mateo, Aurora, Cabatuan, Luna, Reina Mercedes, Burgos, Naguilian and Gamu could be affected by the release of water.

At least 5-20 milliliters of rain is forecasted within the next 24 hours in the Magat watershed.
