Police operatives, in a decisive move to enforce the nationwide gun ban ahead of the 2025 Philippine National and Local Elections, conducted a buy-bust operation leading to the arrest of a suspect involved in illegal firearms trading.

At around 4 p.m. on 6 February, police apprehended the suspect, identified as alias “Jonathan,” a 25-year-old male student, in an operation along Chino Roces Avenue Extension, Barangay Magallanes, Makati City.

Confiscated items from the suspect included one 5.56 Rifle Model SLR-B15 (with serial number), one Cal. 5.7 Ruger Pistol (Serial No. 643-66977A), two 5.56 rifle magazines, two 5.7 Ruger pistol magazines loaded with 40 live rounds, one black rifle bag, one Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max, 40 rounds of Cal. 5.7 live ammunition, one black inside holster for Ruger pistol, one marked ₱1,000 bill, one 2018 Toyota Corolla Altis, assorted identification cards under the suspect’s name, and one black Tumi sling bag.

The arrest of alias “Jonathan” is a significant step in safeguarding the integrity of the 2025 elections. Under Comelec Resolution 11067 and Republic Act 7166, the unauthorized possession, carrying, and selling of firearms during the election period is prohibited. The suspect failed to present legal authorization for firearm sales or a Comelec exemption, leading to his immediate arrest.

The suspect was informed of his constitutional rights but chose to remain silent. He and the seized evidence were brought to the DSOU-SPD Office for proper documentation and the filing of criminal charges.

This successful operation is part of the PNP’s intensified campaign against illegal firearms, aiming to prevent election-related violence and ensure public safety. The Southern Police District, under PBGEN Manuel J. Abrugena, remains committed to maintaining peace and order, preventing the illegal proliferation of firearms used for intimidation and criminal activities during the election season.
