President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has extended the term of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil by four months, effective 7 February 2025.
A memorandum dated 4 February 2025, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, was sent to the office of Interior Secretary Juanito Victor "Jonvic" Remulla, stating the President's decision to extend Marbil's term beyond the compulsory retirement age of 56.
Earlier, Marcos said a change in the PNP's leadership "would not be good for stability" as the election period approaches.
Marbil is the 30th PNP chief and the third to hold the post under the Marcos administration.
He was part of the Philippine Military Academy Sambisig Class of 1991 and took command of the PNP on 1 April 2024.
Marbil previously headed the PNP Directorate for Comptrollership and served as the regional director of Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) and as the director of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG).
