The Senate on Monday approved a measure rescheduling the first-ever parliamentary elections for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) from 12 May 2025 to 13 October this year.
Senate Bill (SB) 2942, or an Act resetting the first regular elections in BARMM, garnered 18 affirmative votes, one negative vote, and zero abstentions during a plenary session.
SB 2942 mandated that BARMM polls shall thereafter be held and synchronized with the 2028 national elections and every three years thereafter.
The terms of office of those elected in the first BARMM elections will begin at noon on 30 October, according to the measure.
Likewise, the measure mandated the Commission on Elections, through the Bangsamoro Electoral Office, to promulgate the rules and regulations for the BARMM elections.
