Tetrachromacy is the culmination of artist Katrina Cuenca’s creative journey and her annual birthday show at Galerie Joaquin. Together with life changes come her discovery of new techniques and inspirations based on personal experiences. The artist’s style of the moment is a blend of figuration and abstraction evoking celebration and spontaneity.
She recently discovered her tetrachromacy — the unique ability to perceive a broader spectrum of color — wherein expansion and experimentation extend the boundaries of her usual tones and shades. She decided on using metal leaf in vibrant new hues from her previous selections. These little additions to her current works captivate a beautiful interplay of light and color. It encapsulates her current evolution through paintings and sculptures, with the addition of artistic accessories through painted decors. In addition, her newfound boldness in form and hues is evident on her latest round canvases, a symbol of fortune and wholeness — the embodiment of new possibilities and further growth at the start of the year.
At the exhibition, white flower bushes and tall floral-like installations scattered around the gallery create the illusion of a whimsical garden. The exhibition vignettes were thoughtfully styled by German furniture and decor brand KARE.
Tetrachromacy by Katrina Cuenca is currently on view at Galerie Joaquin Rockwell inside the Power Plant Mall, Makati City.
