A resident of Navotas City was arrested last Wednesday for an alleged theft that occurred around December 2003.
The operation, carried out on January 29 by the Warrant and Subpoena Section, led to the arrest of alias “Rene,” a 55-year-old man from Barangay San Rafael Village.
PLT Roberto Furuc of the Warrant and Subpoena Section (WSS) of the Navotas City Police said “Rene” was involved in the theft of 218 pallets of greaseproof paper, valued at P1,000,000.
The arrest warrant was issued by Judge Benjamin Antonio of the Malabon City Regional Trial Court after the accused failed to appear for arraignment and pre-trial in November 2004.
“There are other standing warrants against him, which are all thefts,” Furuc said.
Furuc added that “Rene” was shocked upon his arrest, as he believed the theft charges had already been dismissed by the court.
“He was shocked because he knew that it was done, he asserted that he has proof the case has already been dismissed, and we verified to the court that the warrants were still active.”
In addition to “Rene,” two other individuals were named in the warrant, but the police said both have since passed away.
The arrested individual is currently being held at the Navotas City Police Station’s custodial facility while awaiting a commitment order from the court. No bail has been recommended for his case.
