Different types of illegal drugs were recovered from a delivery rider after he was flagged at a checkpoint in North Caloocan.

Based on the report submitted to Northern Police Acting District Director PCol. Josefino Ligan, members of the Caloocan City Police Substation 9 apprehended alias “Jonathan” for not wearing a helmet as he approached a Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoint in Bagumbong, Caloocan.

However, instead of stopping at the checkpoint, “Jonathan” sped up his motorcycle in an attempt to escape before the authorities intercepted him in the area.

Upon conducting the police search, they found that the suspect had no driver’s license and was using an unregistered motorcycle.

Inside the driver’s top delivery box, they recovered 11 kilograms of suspected marijuana bricks, 60 pieces of suspected ecstasy tablets, eight bottles of liquid marijuana, and a sachet of suspected cocaine.

Police Major Segundino Bulan Jr., commander of Caloocan City Substation 9, said that upon verification, “Jonathan” is not a registered driver for the delivery app Lalamove and was just using the top delivery box to transport the illegal drugs.

“Our suspect said that sometimes he travels to Baguio City to get the supplies, and sometimes it is delivered through provincial buses,” Bulan said in a phone interview.

Upon interrogation, 'Jonathan' said that he was headed to the neighboring Barangay 171 when he was stopped at the checkpoint. The station commander added that upon checking the suspect’s phone, they discovered his number had already been blocked by his clients.

Personnel from the Caloocan City Police Station - Station Drug Enforcement Unit (CCPS-SDEU) also checked the suspect’s house in Barangay 176, but they didn’t find any drug supplies in his house.

“Jonathan” will face multiple charges, including violations of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code or the Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority, and Section 11 of Article 2 of the Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

PCOL Ligan lauded the police operation and encouraged stronger cooperation from the public to build a “more secure and peaceful community.”
