A man carrying firearms and illegal drugs was flagged at a police checkpoint in Caloocan City around 3:10 a.m. on Monday.

The 41-year-old suspect, identified by the alias "Jaysie" and a resident of Malabon City, was stopped by police for not wearing a safety helmet as he approached the checkpoint at North Diversion Road, corner Pangako Street, in Barangay 141, Bagong Barrio.

Police Captain Mikko Arellano of Bagong Barrio Police Substation reported that the officers noticed a "bulk" at the suspect’s waist while pulling him over.

"When the police asked the suspect to lift his shirt, he tried to evade arrest by accelerating on his motorcycle," Arellano stated.

“There was a slight altercation and it turned out that he was holding a firearm, while another was concealed in his bag," Arellano added.

Police recovered a .45 caliber pistol with two magazines loaded with four bullets each. A 9mm Taurus Millennium pistol with four rounds of ammunition was also retrieved.

A subsequent search yielded approximately 10 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of ₱68,000.

The firearms were examined and found not to be linked to any crime.

Further investigation revealed that Jaysie had previously faced charges under Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and was released just last year.

The suspect will face multiple charges, including violations of:

  • RA 10054 (Mandatory Use of Motorcycle Helmets Act),

  • RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act),

  • RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002),

  • Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code (Disobedience to a Person in Authority), and

  • The Omnibus Election Code.

The suspect’s motorcycle is now under the custody of the Bagong Barrio Police, while Jaysie awaits inquest proceedings.
