National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts and Philippine cinema’s Superstar Nora Aunor announced on Tuesday that she is withdrawing her candidacy as a party-list representative in the 2025 midterm elections.

Aunor was set to run as the second nominee of the People’s Champ Guardians Party-list but has decided not to pursue her political aspirations.

On her official page, the iconic actress shared, “Nagsumite na po ako ng aking withdrawal sa Comelec at sa opisina ng People’s Champ Party List para sa May 2025 elections."

Aunor is among several entertainment personalities who have ventured into politics.

In 2021, she also filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) as the representative of the NORAA Party-list (National Organization for Responsive Advocacies for the Arts) during the 2022 elections.

Born Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, the “Superstar” of Philippine cinema began her rise to fame in the 1960s after competing in Tawag ng Tanghalan. She became a household name with iconic performances in award-winning films such as "Himala," "Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos," and "Bona."

After spending five years in the United States, Aunor returned to the Philippines in 2011 to resume her illustrious acting career.

In 2022, she was conferred the prestigious title of National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, joining other celebrated figures such as Ricky Lee for Film and Broadcast Arts, Gémino Abad for Literature, and Fides Cuyugan-Asensio for Music.
