DAVAO CITY — The newly-formed Mindanao Professional Golfers Association of the Philippines (MPGAP) Inc. seeks to have more professional-amateur (Pro-Am) events following the successful staging of its inaugural competition last Monday at the South Pacific Golf Club here.
The pair of sportsman-businessman Ronnie Balcita and professional-bound Nino Villacencio emerged victorious after carding a 66 in the one-day tourney.
Pro campaigner Mario Labaho and Jonathan Cabreros along with Emilio Padimdim and Shawn Bandolon were tied at second place with similar 67s while lady golfer Yvone Bisera and Chiboy Apostol and the duo of Boyong San Jose and Jed Digal settled for third place honors with identical 68s.
“We thought of having this Pro-Am tournament to give way for pros to play with their students,” South Pacific Golf Club Davao Director Tommy Iñigo said.
“We initiated the tournament with the help of Boyet Tan who is also an avid supporter of the event.”
Initiated by pro golfer Bernard Paquin, the MPGAP is looking to complete its board of directors along with its registration in the Securities and Exchange Commission so they can start organizing more tourneys in the future.
