Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) announced that construction of its P4.84-billion Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) in Las Piñas City is 33 percent complete.
The facility, slated to begin operations by July 2026, will treat up to 88 million liters of wastewater per day, benefiting an estimated 360,000 residents across 20 barangays.
Located in Barangay Pamplona Uno, the Las Piñas WRF will employ advanced Anaerobic-Anoxic-Oxic (A2O) technology to effectively remove pollutants from wastewater.
The facility is designed to meet the stringent standards set forth by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in its Water Quality Guidelines and General Effluent Standards of 2016 (DAO 2016-08).
“Our construction timeline faced some delays due to the pandemic in 2020, but we resumed work in 2023 with renewed vigor,” said Maynilad president and CEO Ramoncito Fernandez.
“This project underscores our commitment to providing reliable wastewater services to our customers while significantly reducing pollution in Manila Bay,” he added.
The Las Piñas WRF is a key component of Maynilad’s broader initiative to expand sewerage and sanitation services across Metro Manila. The project is being financed through a collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Development Bank of the Philippines.
Since assuming its concession in 2007, Maynilad has invested over Php46.4 billion in upgrading wastewater infrastructure within its service area. The company currently operates 22 Sewage Treatment Plants, two Sewage and Septage Treatment Plants, and one Septage Treatment Plant, boasting a combined treatment capacity of approximately 724,000 cubic meters per day.
This latest facility reinforces Maynilad’s commitment to environmental sustainability and public health by improving wastewater management and contributing to the rehabilitation of Manila Bay.
