A netizen recently posted an undated video capturing an actual robbery during heavy traffic on Road 10 in Tondo, Manila.
The video shows two medium-built young men walking through traffic when, as they passed a red vehicle, they opened the car’s door.
One of the suspects quickly grabbed belongings from inside the car before running away. The shocked passenger inside the vehicle was unable to react until the traffic resumed, and the thieves were not pursued.
The robbery was only captured on nearby CCTV footage, which helped identify the suspects.
The video went viral after the netizen, who chose to remain anonymous, shared it as a warning to motorists.
The post urges drivers to always lock their car doors to prevent similar incidents, as thieves often exploit the element of surprise.
The incident took place on Road 10 in Tondo, Manila. Some complainants have reported similar crimes occurring in areas like Quirino corner Osmeña, where thieves, rag vendors, and car display sellers mix in, making it difficult to spot potential criminals.
The netizen also called on the Manila Police to deploy more personnel to protect motorists from various traffic-related crimes, including the notorious “wiper boys.”
These are mostly minors who douse car windshields with water without the owner’s permission and then demand payment for wiping the windows.
If motorists refuse to pay, the wiper boys sometimes cause damage to the vehicles before running away.
