Chinese actor Wang Xing, 31, was rescued on 7 January after going missing for two days in Thailand, according to reports.

His disappearance had started a massive social media campaign led by his girlfriend, who sought help via the Chinese platform Weibo.

"We have no choice but to borrow the power of the internet to amplify our voices," Wang's girlfriend wrote on 5 January. Her plea quickly went viral, receiving support from major celebrities like singer Lay Zhang and actor Qin Lan.

Wang was found in a scam center near the Thai-Myanmar border, where he told police that approximately 50 Chinese nationals were also being held. The rescue was met with widespread relief, but also raised concerns about others still trapped in similar conditions.

This revelation has reignited public outcry over the growing issue of human trafficking and forced labor in these compounds. Families of missing Chinese nationals have launched a petition urging their government to take action. Initially listing 174 missing individuals, the document now includes over 600 cases and continues to grow.

“We are desperate to know if the remaining Chinese nationals [who were] with him have been rescued,” reads one top-liked comment on Weibo.

As the story unfolds, calls for swift government intervention to address this crisis are intensifying, with many urging authorities to prioritize the safety and freedom of all victims.
