NNIC warns vs missing luggage auctions

NNIC warns vs missing luggage auctions
Published on

The New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) warned the public against fraudulent online accounts which advertise the sale of supposedly “missing luggage” at the airport for a mere P125.

“These claims are false,” NNIC — the private operator of Ninoy Aquino International Airport — said. “NAIA does not auction or sell abandoned luggage or forbidden items. These posts are scams that mislead the public by using NAIA’s name.”

It also advised against sharing personal information or engaging with these fraudulent posts or pages and to report these sites immediately to prevent others from being misled.

“Only get information about NAIA from official channels,” NNIC said.

The NAIA operator added that these fraudulent claims are often promoted as sponsored posts, highlighting the lengths scammers go to deceive consumers.

NAIA follows established procedures for handling lost and found items, as well as confiscated prohibited items, in accordance with regulations as the NNIC stressed that there are no auctions or sales of these goods held at NAIA.

NNIC encourages the public to stay vigilant and share this advisory to safeguard the community from fraudulent activity.

Similar warnings were issued by the Manila International Airport Authority in 2023.

Protocols are in place to secure and dispose of forgotten or left-behind luggage, but selling it online is not one of them. These procedures are overseen by the airport authority and airline operators.

The airport management expressed dismay at the audacity of fraudsters who target unsuspecting people looking for bargains online.
