Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla warned foreign workers employed by Philippine gaming operators (POGOs) who remain in the country after the 31 December deadline to leave, saying they must surrender to authorities or face severe legal consequences.

The warning followed a statement from the Bureau of Immigration, which announced it would intensify efforts to locate 11,254 POGO workers who have yet to comply with the ultimatum to depart by the end of 2024.

In a statement, Remulla reminded foreign POGO employees to “submit themselves to authorities or face severe legal consequences such as permanent blacklisting and other sanctions.” He added that President Ferdinand Marcos has made it clear that POGOs have no place in the country, and the administration remains committed to ensuring the welfare of the Filipino people.

“This administration stands firm in its resolve to intensifying its guerilla operations against non-compliant POGOs,” said Remulla.

Earlier, the Bureau of Immigration reported that 24,779 out of 33,863 POGO workers had downgraded their work visas. Of the total number of foreign workers, 22,609 left the Philippines before the deadline.

The remaining 11,254 workers who did not downgrade their visas or depart the country are slated for deportation.
