The Philippine National Police (PNP) has started tightening security measures and other law enforcement efforts ahead of the Feast of Jesus Nazareno, or the Traslacion 2025, on January 9.
In a statement Sunday, PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil ordered all police units in Metro Manila to implement extensive security preparations to ensure a safe, orderly, and meaningful event for all devotees.
Marbil also noted that the police organization has already coordinated with local government units, religious groups, and other concerned agencies to ensure the safe and peaceful observance of the Traslacion this year.
“Traslacion is a profound expression of faith and devotion. The PNP is fully committed to safeguarding every devotee, dedicating all necessary resources to ensure peace and order during this sacred occasion,” Marbil said.
Thousands of police officers will be deployed in key areas, including the procession route, high-density locations, and designated entry and exit points.
Marbil said specialized units trained in crowd control will help maintain order and ensure the smooth flow of participants.
The PNP Intelligence Group and Anti-Cybercrime Group will closely monitor potential threats, both physical and digital.
Medical teams and quick-response units will be strategically positioned to provide immediate assistance.
The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and local traffic enforcers will manage traffic flow and implement rerouting schemes to minimize disruptions for devotees and the general public.
Marbil urged the public to follow the imposed security protocols, including avoiding bringing prohibited items such as bladed or pointed objects, backpacks, or any items that may pose safety risks.
“These measures aim to facilitate smooth inspections and ensure the overall safety of the event,” he said.
“We call on devotees and the public to cooperate with security protocols, report any suspicious activities, and prioritize safety. Your vigilance and cooperation are vital to the success of this event,” he added.
The highlights of Traslacion 2025, with the theme: “Mas mabuti ang pagsunod kaysa paghahandog sa mga umaasa kay Jesus” (1 Samuel 15:22), Nazareno 2025, include the midnight Fiesta Mass and the grand Traslacion, which sees the revered Jesus Nazareno image transported from Rizal Park's Quirino Grandstand to the Quiapo Church.
Marbil noted the PNP will provide regular advisories about safety guidelines and updates regarding the event.
