Rookie setter Julia Coronel takes it upon herself to play with more maturity and better decision-making to help pump life into Galeries Tower’s campaign in the 2024-2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.
The third overall pick in the first-ever Draft believes it is high time for the Highrisers to get their acts together and learn from the mistakes of the past to turn their fortunes around.
The young squad so far has one win under its belt after six outings despite gallant stands against other established and stacked clubs.
In fact, Galeries Tower had a couple of winnable five-setters against favored foes only to crumble in the closing stretch both times.
“For me, it’s a shame that there were games that we almost had in the bag. We just couldn’t figure out why we still came up short in the end,” the Alas Pilpinas backup setter said.
The Highrisers wasted a 2-1 match lead in a sorry five-set loss to Chery Tiggo to end the year. Galeries Tower started its campaign in the season-opening conference dropping a five-setter against Choco Mucho.
“In those games, we shot ourselves in the foot with our errors,” Coronel said.
“So for us, these losses, regardless of how close they were, are big lessons for all of us. It just teaches us how to be better, how to be more mature with our decisions,” the De La Salle University product added.
“Volleyball is a game of decision-making so we really have to make better decisions.”
Coronel is playing her first tournament with the Highrisers after skipping last season’s Reinforced Conference due to her commitment in the national team.
She is averaging 2.43 excellent sets per frame at 11th spot in the category lorded by Farm Fresh playmaker Louie Romero (4.50).
