Review: Dyson WashG1 wet floor cleaner Floored!

Time — or constant lack thereof — being a top concern, many look for appliances that are efficient enough to cut through steps. Cleaning, for one, is not as simple as picking up trash or dusting. Some forms of dirt are harder to clean, and when it comes to spills, the effort to keep a space spic and span simply doubles.

Modern homemakers know that when it comes to cleaning the house, there are various challenges that require just as many levels of patience, diligence and creativity.

You have to get the mop and fill the pail with water, if you want to do it the traditional way. Later, there were innovative products that entered the market, which sold like hotcakes as they took out the icky task of wringing the soiled mop through a nifty part of the item that wrung the liquid into a pail. One could also clean the cloth mop without ever having to touch it. But sadly these innovations came and went because: 1) they were space-consuming and were, frankly, an eyesore; and 2) they were not durable — and then you had to throw them out, adding to the mountains of trash that such disposable items create.

It is always a good idea to invest on a high-quality product that will address all your needs and, to this homemaker’s mind, still look good at any corner, too, of your home where you choose to store it.

When it comes to aesthetics, a brand that has stood out for some time now is Dyson, with its minimalist designs that make fans, for example, look like décor.

But this British brand also specializes in vacuum cleaners, air purifiers and hand and hair dryers. Dyson also carries a wide range of stick/handheld vacuums, canister vacuums and uprights. Among its latest ones to come out is the Dyson WashG1™ wet floor cleaner, which is credited for its “powerful, hygienic floor washing” capabilities.

While it takes a spot among the pricier floor cleaners in the market today, the WashG1 actually makes a case for being quite worth it. How?

First, it is so easy to set it up that this writer could do it herself straight from the box, with no assistance. Absolute proud moment there. Of course, the next step was to learn to operate it, and this, too, came easily after ensuring that the machine had been charged first.

The WashG1 has water tanks attached and a mechanism that automatically separates debris and liquid waste. At the end of a quick run-through around the hard floors in the house, it was a breeze to dispose of the soiled water and the debris bin at the bottom. Easy as click, click — and good exercise, too!

The machine cleans like a trooper – removing wet and dry dirt without a trace, sucking up dusty and small dirt from the floor as if you had wiped them thoroughly with your own hands. According to its app, the machine is equipped with “one cleaner head. Covered in highly absorbent microfiber, the two counter-rotating motorized rollers simultaneously remove spills, debris, hair and dried-on stains.” Also, “three cleaning modes let you set the hydration level to suit the task: level 1, level 2, or level 3.” It’s like having a handy helper, indeed.

A single tank covered the entire space in less than 30 minutes. The chore became even quicker because, unlike other vacuum cleaners, this one could traverse spaces without having to be unplugged first or having to check how far the cord could be stretched.

The machine glided through so effortlessly, maneuvered without issue and could even go under furniture. It is, indeed “ideal for tiles, vinyl, laminate and sealed wooden floors in your hall, kitchen, bathroom and dining area.”

Best of all, and I bet many will agree, the 140-second self-clean feature that “automatically separates debris from dirty liquid — for hygienic, no-touch disposal” is a plus one would gladly pay for. Needless to say, I was floored!
