BAGUIO CITY — The Tuba Municipal Police is advising motorists, especially tourists unfamiliar with the area, to avoid passing through Kennon Road in Benguet.
"In light of the current road situation along Camp 2, Kennon Road, Tuba, Benguet, motorists operating light vehicles such as sedans, hatchbacks, and other similar vehicles are strongly advised to take alternate routes via Marcos Highway or Asin Road," according to the police advisory. Kennon Road is often preferred by motorists as it is the shortest route to Benguet areas and Baguio City.
Recent assessments by authorities indicate that sections of Kennon Road, particularly in higher elevations, have uneven and rough surfaces, which pose significant challenges for smaller and less robust vehicles. Owners of smaller vehicles are especially vulnerable to damage and accidents due to these conditions.
Before and after Christmas Day, motorists waited for hours to move their vehicles through Kennon Road due to heavy traffic, as thousands of drivers chose to travel via the road despite its poor conditions.
In recent months, especially during the typhoon season, the road has been accessible only to residents along the highway. Construction and rehabilitation work are still ongoing on parts of Kennon Road.
