Marlon Tapales
Former unified world super-bantamweight champion Marlon Tapales assumed the mindset of the two Filipino world champions in the ongoing Christmas season.
“No holiday break,” Tapales said on Thursday as he sets his sights on his 2025 debut in Cambodia in February.
“I was advised to be in shape even during the holidays,” the former International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association 122-lb king added.
The direct order came from no less than his chief handler JC Mananquil, who has struck a deal with Cambodian bigwigs to stage shows in Phnom Penh.
Mananquil tested the Cambodian waters last year and he liked what he saw.
Tapales headlined that show and in February, he will again beef up the event.
Tapales is best remembered by fight fans for going ten rounds with the murderous punching Japanese Naoya Inoue in 2023.
Tapales is not the only one sacrificing during the holidays.
In fact, the country’s two world champions have decided to stay active amid the seemingly endless celebrations.
World Boxing Council minimumweight ruler Melvin Jerusalem and International Boxing Federation titleholder Pedro Taduran are also working out, though not as intense compared to regular training days.
