The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday warned the public to be vigilant against burglaries, particularly “akyat bahay” incidents, as many Filipinos go on vacation during the Christmas season.
“One of the incidents we often encounter during these vacations involves burglars who break doors and windows,” said PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo during a press briefing.
“That’s why we keep on reminding our countrymen, especially those who go on vacation and will be gone for a few days from their homes and workplaces, to make sure that their homes and businesses are secured and safe,” she added.
Police officers will be deployed in barangays to conduct security patrols and ensure the safety of homes and establishments.
As of Monday, approximately 37,000 police officers have been deployed nationwide to maintain peace and order during the holiday season.
Fajardo also reminded motorists to check their vehicles, ensure adequate rest, and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol to prevent accidents.
Passengers of public transportation were advised to be mindful of their belongings and protect themselves from pickpockets and robbers.
